closet
As your Columbus home improvement company, we know you are not always in the market for a large remodel, one of the spaces we find home owners outgrow fairly quickly is in the closet! Closet space is sort of like garage space, if you have it – you fill it! Deciding what works best for you is tricky, so we are here to help!

Take a look at a few tips that might be useful if you are trying to decide what might work best for you in terms of closet storage:

Take note of what you already have: How many “long things” and how many “short things”- trying to figure out what items need real estate in your closet is crucial

Size up your current space: Measure everything to a T. Sketch a to-scale layout on graph paper, with each wall’s width and height as well as details such as base moldings, chases, and receptacles. Once you have these plans, make copies and then start the brainstorming (etch-a-sketch) process of determining possible layout options.

Look for system options you can adjust: Once you measure your space, shop for the closest fit in a ready-to-go adjustable setup, and screw standards to studs on the back wall. Viola’ you have a semi-custom closet that fits your needs!

Shelves are a must: But be careful, keep at least one shelf within arm’s reach or no higher than 7 feet. The topmost shelf is typically at least 12 inches from the ceiling. Reserve it for off-season clothing and gear that can be retrieved using a stepladder.

Fully custom: If you want a fully custom closet an independent designer or franchise rep comes to your house, gauges your needs and space, offers a range of materials and features, and does all the work

Repurpose a chest/dresser: Drawer systems can be short on charm. Instead, see if you can slide in a small dresser or chest for socks, ties, and underwear. Top it with a dish to catch pocket change, a jewelry organizer.
